Seabourn Venture Cruise Ship Review

seabourne cruise

The new ship was modeled after the line's three newest vessels, Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest. Delivery was completed in 2016.[9] The vessel replaced the capacity that left the Seabourn brand with the sale of Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend. In July 2018, the cruise line announced it would add two expedition ships to its fleet. Seabourn Venture was delivered on June 29, 2022 and inaugural voyage on July 27, 2022.[10] Seabourn Pursuit is scheduled for delivery in February 2023. With only nine decks, Seabourn Pursuit offers an easy to navigate, ‘yacht-like’ environment that combines class and comfort. The amenities and public spaces wouldn’t feel out of place on a non-expedition luxury ship, and many of its venues are found on other Seabourn vessels.

On August 15, 2019, Seabourn opened bookings for its new "Private Air" program (privately chartered jet service) that allows customers to fly to homeports/departure cruise ports via private jets rather than commercial airlines. The new service is global and offers a variety of private jet aircraft (as models and sizes) to charter, accommodating groups of any size (upon request) and plane capacity 5 to 16 passengers. Seabourn's fly-cruise packages offer access to thousands of airports (private and commercial) worldwide. Seabourn welcomes the second ultra-luxury Expedition ship to the fleet, Seabourn Pursuit. Purpose-built for immersive and adventurous travel experiences, the smaller sizes of expedition ships afford access to remote destinations and areas largers ships cannot reach. The shorter trips navigate between Juneau and Vancouver, while the 2-week cruises follow a round-trip route from Vancouver.

The Seabourn Venture Deck Plan Has Familiar Venues, Multiple Lounges

In the winter, Seabourn moves at least two of its vessels to the Caribbean and South America while basing another ship in Asia and a fourth vessel in Australia. Introducing Seabourn Ovation, the sister-ship to the already prestigious Seabourn Encore. Seabourn Ovation represents another welcome stage in the evolution of small ship cruising, which Seabourn pioneered and has consistently expanded and enriched for all of our small ship cruises. Seabourn has partnered with Dr. Andrew Weil to create the first-ever at-sea Mindful Living Program dedicated to caring for the whole body and soul.

Seabourn Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

The Seabourn Venture deck plan has many familiar venues to those who have sailed the line before. Its first ship, Seabourn Pride, entered service in 1988, followed by an identical sister, Seabourn Spirit, in 1989. A third vessel, originally planned for 1990, was delayed due to investors' financial constraints and was ultimately purchased by Royal Viking Line in 1992 as Royal Viking Queen. In 1995, Royal Viking Queen was transferred to a Kloster subsidiary, Royal Cruise Line, as Queen Odyssey. Seabourn Cruise Line is a luxury small ship cruise line headquartered in Seattle, Washington.[1] It is owned by Carnival Corporation & plc.

(Though Ovation is laid out identically to Encore, it has its own look.) It also possesses a large number of seating nooks, both inside and out, for passengers to relax with a drink, a book or for a chat. You rarely feel the presence of those 600 travelers -- with the exception of The Colonnade buffet at peak hours. Ease into island time as you cruise through the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. Each day is a covergence of indulgence and adventure on your Seabourn state-of-the-art ship, enjoying high-end amenities, fine-dining, and sights as colorful as the Caribbean's diverse cultures. Immerse yourself in the laid-back rhythm of the Caribbean with unforgettable afternoons of watersports, beach barbecues with lobsters on the grill, or caviar served in the surf.

Cruises

Seabourn has been running cruises to Antarctica for years on Seabourn Quest and the line developed its Ventures by Seabourn program that offers expedition options in various locales across its fleet in 2015. There's at least one Formal Optional evening for passengers who want to dress up in The Restaurant or The Grill by Thomas Keller. Some men wear a tie or even a tuxedo, but it's not a requirement, in line with Seabourn's more relaxed form of luxury travel. However, on Formal Optional evenings, the line requests no jeans in any of the lounges or dining venues. In the evening, the dress is “elegant casual” with women wearing anything from jeans with dressy tops to long, flowing sun dresses.

The Mediterranean trips offer a wide range of port stops and vary greatly in length. The price of the cruise fare includes gratuities, so there is no need or expectation to tip the staff on the ship. However, gratuities are not included in the pricing of shore excursions, so guests should be prepared to give tips to local guides and drivers. During the day, you’ll find many guests grabbing a Piña Colada or Mai Tai at the Patio Bar by the pool to bring back to their lounge chairs or gathered around the small Sky Bar on Deck 10, which overlooks the pool. The Observation Bar, with panoramic views, is a favorite in the evening for pre-dinner cocktails.

Complimentary caviar

In October 2023 was announced that on Seabourn Quest in January 2024 debuts the fleet's first Solis Restaurant. The premium dining venue offers daily prepared dishes of contemporary Mediterranean cuisine. The menu is based on the Mediterranean destinations/regions visited by Seabourn, including the Italian and French Rivieras (Central Med) as well as Turkey and the Greek islands (Aegean). Solis Restaurant's menu was developed by Anton Egger (Seabourn's Master Chef) and Franck Salein (Seabourn's Senior Corporate Executive Chef). The new restaurant has limited seating, provides a chic atmosphere and also offers a large selection of premium wine brands and a separate cocktail menu.

A cruise on Seabourn Sojourn, particularly a longer sailing, resembles short-term membership at an upscale country club or boutique hotel. Bridge and trivia teams stay the same throughout the voyage, allowing friendships to form, dinners to be planned and cards to be exchanged. New lounges that have a decided expedition focus include the underutilized (by guests; the expedition staff loved this area) Bow Lounge at the front of the ship on Deck 6. Here, navigation instruments that mimic the bridge give maritime geeks all kinds of stats about the ship's position and progress, and you can also find sodas and snacks. We also loved pre-dinner cocktails in the cozy Expedition Lounge on Deck 4, squarely between the Discovery Center (which has multiple uses as theater and briefing room) and the Restaurant.

The heart of the ship is the cozy Expedition Lounge on Deck 4, nicely nudged between The Restaurant and the theater-like Discovery Center. Flanked by a bar and boutique, this lounge serves as a lovely après-expedition hangout or the place to enjoy a pre- or post-dinner libation. Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site.

There is no pool deck, per se aboard Seabourn Venture, at least in the traditional cruise ship sense. Instead, there’s an infinity pool and hot tubs at the back of the ship on Deck 5, outside the Patio/Colonnade. Fellow passengers are a mixture of North Americans, Brits, Australians and other Europeans, including a fair few German-speakers. The age group is mixed, from late 40s to 70s, and from the conversation and the amount of bling on show in the evenings, you can tell that most people are wealthy.

You won't have to pay to dine in any of the onboard restaurants, or pay for gratuities (even in the spa), most wines and spirits, soda, water, coffees, cocktails or fitness classes. There is an extra charge for shore excursions, internet, dry cleaning, laundry and valet services, salon and spa treatments, and transfers. Past Seabourn cruisers may receive some of these amenities complimentarily as a perk of being a past passenger. As of now, among Seabourn's itinerary lineup, there's everything from seven-night cruises in the Caribbean to 145-night globe-circling voyages. The company generally doesn't do short sailings of just three or four nights, unlike mass-market lines. In just the last year, Seabourn also has begun to base a ship during the winter at the southern tip of South America for regular sailings to Antarctica — a move made possible by the 2022 debut of its first expedition ship, Seabourn Venture.

For a limited time only, until February 29, Seabourn’s exclusive Sail of the Year is your best opportunity to sail away in ultra-luxury with savings up to 25% on our Ocean and Expedition voyages and a reduced 15% deposit. Book by January 31 and enrich your experience even more with up to $1,000USD per suite shipboard credit. Mark your calendar now for Seabourn’s Sail of the Year, and get ready for moments you’ll treasure for years to come. There is no formal youth program, but they do allow children and teens to board their ships.
